Armchair Theatre

Brian Docherty

Brian Docherty’s first full length poetry collection bears witness to recent social and cultural history, drawing on the legacy of W.H. Auden, William Carlos Williams and Allen Ginsberg, and the immediacy of rock music to recall his childhood, the political culture of Glasgow and the Thatcher era.

"the reader enters a world that is personal but always worked out against a detailed social backcloth. It’s a politics of everyday that comes through, with Brecht quoted, ‘Grub first then ethics’, but it is dealt with in a framework of ideas.”

- Jim burns, Poetry London Newsletter

“such a generous spirit, as well as a writer of honesty, perception, and sensitivity”
